Patrick Swayze, the Hollywood actor who redefined dancing with his movie "Dirty Dancing," has died in Los Angeles after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57. 

Swayze, who was trained as a dancer, started out in several romantic films as well as performed many roles at theater stages. His latest theater incursion was with the London production "Guys and Dulls" in 2006.

His most recent TV appearance was as a tough FBI agent for the A&E drama series "The Beast." But his battle with cancer started to play out publicly and his condition worsened as the serie evolved.

Swayze is survived by his wife Lisa Niemi, on of his mother's dance students; his brother and his mother.
