NEW YORK -- The Yankee’s won, but it was A.J. Burnett night!

The right-handed Yankees pitcher was in control of the mound from the first pitch, helping the Yankees win 3-1 on Game 2 of the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Burnett allowed only four hits in a seventh-innings appearance, striking-out nine including Ryan Howard three times.

The Yankees’ pitcher stole the show from the Phillies’ Pedro Martinez, who gave up after six innings and 107 pitches. Pedro left the mount to the pleasing of the Yankees’ fans that booed him all the way to bench.

For the Yankees Mark Teixeira homered to the right-center leading off the fourth inning for the Yankees. Hideki Matsui joined him in the six, after reaching down to a breaking ball and hitting it after a 1-2 count.

Mariano Rivera picked-up the ball from Burnett and saved the game for the Bronx.

The series is now tied. And after a day off the teams will meet again on Saturday at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park.
